Quality and Code Metrics in Java

August 27th, 2008

Code quality has become a hot topic over the 12-18 months. With the Agile movement growing there is more responsibility on the organizations to push quality further forward into the SDLC. However there are a lot of metrics out there to analyze code but which work? and which can be used effectively to get the best ROI? Also, how can simple, free tools help development teams increase code quality quickly without becoming a burden?

The following will be covered in the presentation:
  • Why we don't collect metrics? - are no metrics better than any?
  • Who is responsible for quality?
  • Quality of the Java language...
  • What metrics should we collect, tools to use and implementation into a feedback loop.
  • Demystification, what are not metrics
  • 'Ugly' metrics - which are proved to work?
  • Gaming Metrics and how to avoid it
  • Implementing a 3 stage metrics plan in the Java Dev team.
